Did you know? According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, US firms will create a staggering 22 million new jobs between 2002 and 2012. How many jobs/occupations can you describe? Most of us are only familiar with a handful of occupations- jobs our friends and relatives have or the ones we see on television or those depicted in the movies.
As the number of job titles change and grow, we must increase our repertoire to stay current and employable. In this on-line adventure, your English instructor is giving you time and credit to learn more about careers for English majors. While you may or may not think you will find a career in an English related field, you may be surprised at the number and varied career opportunities.

What interests you?
If you choose work that is interesting to you, there is a much greater chance you will be successful at it. Look at the diagram on this page to get a better picture of how one finds a career path. You can see from the diagram that focusing on what interests you is one of the keys to career success. With that in mind, complete this Destinations 2020 survey. Write down on your assignment sheet what interests you the most; is it people, things or information? Next, because you are doing this career adventure as part of your English class, click on the arts/language selection and explore 12 career choices. Write down your top three job titles.

You now have some ideas of what you can do with an English major. Look at this Monster major to career converter. Find your major or want a be major. Then check off some jobs that interest you. Complete the process by identifying your location and you will get a list of actual jobs. Write down two or three jobs that appeal to you on your assignment sheet.
